Abstract

In this article, the works "Pride and Prejudice" written by author Jane Austen and "Mrs. Dalloway" written byauthor Virginia Woolf will be compared and contrasted with each other and their similarities and differences in this context will be examined in terms of periods, authors and works. "Pride and Prejudice", written in 18th century and published in the 19th century by Jane Austen, is known as one of the most important novels of the Romantic Age, and "Mrs. Dalloway", written and published by Virginia Woolf in the 20th century, is known as one of the prominent novels ofthe Modern Period. The common themes in these two works are that the characters are sharply divided into upper and lower classes, and this classification results in a negative reflection on the relationships between the characters. However, despite these classifications in the works, the characters find themselves in completely different places with the influence of love, their emotional instincts, and ignore these regulations. Although there are common themes in the subjects of the works, considering the fact that these works were written or published in different periods and the relationships of thecharacters with other characters, they also reveal some contrasts to the reader. The way in which the plots are handled around the characters will be presented to the reader in the analysis of the works in the comparison that will be discussed by two different authors.
