Abstract

The aim of this research is to develop a valid and reliable measurement tool to determine the resilience of teachers. A total of 124 items created by the researchers by examining the relevant literature were presented to the opinion of 7 experts with the expert opinion form. The scale, which was graded as a five-point Likert type with a total of 78 items, with the items removed, corrected and added in line with the opinions of the experts, was applied to 459 teachers. The results of the obtained data were tried to be explained by factor analysis. As a result of the exploratory factor analysis, it was concluded that the scale consisted of 4 factors. Of these four factors, “self-efficacy belief” alone accounts for 24% of the common variance, “education-teaching processes” factor alone accounts for 19% of the common variance, “relationships with parents” factor alone accounts for 8% of the common variance, and “physical conditions” factor alone explains 5% of the common variance. The factor loads of the 36-item scale range from 0.497 to 0.817. Cronbach Alpha coefficient was calculated as .93 for the whole scale, .94 for the “Self-Efficacy Belief” sub-factor, .92 for the “Education-Teaching Processes” sub-factor, .80 for the “Relations with the Parents” sub-factor, and .67 for the “Physical Conditions” sub-factor. The split-half reliability of the scale (Spearman Brown) was .87 for the whole scale, .92 for the “Self-Efficacy Belief” sub-factor, .89 for the “Education-Teaching Processes” sub-factor, .80 for the “Relations with the Parents” sub-factor, and .77 for the “Physical Conditions” sub-factor. The values obtained as a result of the confirmatory factor analysis carried out for the data set collected from 632 teachers are within the limits of normal values or acceptable values (χ2/sd=3.19). These results reveal that the Teachers' Resilience Scale is a valid and reliable measurement tool.
