Abstract

Born in the last years of the Ottoman Empire, Mehmet Akif Ersoy is an extraordinary person who differs with his pen and thoughts. He is one of those who witnessed the Ottomans bid farewell to history. This situation makes him very sad. It makes an extraordinary effort to prevent the state from falling apart. From time to time, it does not fail to warn those who want the Ottoman Empire to be divided and fragmented (especially those within the country). However, he would be one of those who witnessed the collapse of the state. Mehmet Akif Ersoy makes the Dardanelles war, a magnificent war (the life and death war of the Turkish nation) won by the Ottoman Empire, which is about to bid farewell, with his poem "Çanakkale Martyrs". During the period of the fall of the Ottoman Empire and the National Struggle, he supported the struggle with his pen and voice (the sermons he gave). The Independence March, which he wrote as a member of parliament and a poet, added a spiritual strength to the National Struggle as the anthem of difficult times. The National Anthem, which was accepted by the National Assembly that saved the nation from occupation, was chosen from among 724 poems. Mehmet Akif Ersoy was thrilled with the victory of the mille-tin, for which he did not avoid any sacrifice for his salvation. However, he suffered serious injustices in the first years of the Republic. Mehmet Akif Ersoy, who is a personality and a monument of pride, could not resist the insults (being of Albanian origin, being always a defender of Islam, etc.) in the press and various platforms, and at the invitation of his close friend Abbas Halim Pasha, he went to Egypt, where he will live for eleven years. it moves. He returns to his beloved homeland close to his death and says goodbye on December 27, 1936 in Istanbul. The uncertainties about the Egyptian life in which Mehmet Akif Ersoy lived for eleven years still preserve their mystery. Mehmet Akif Ersoy continued to be interested in poetry as well as lectures on Turkish language and literature at Cairo University where he taught in Egypt.
