Abstract

Societies want to live freely and independently within the borders of the land they know as their homeland. When it feels that its territory or borders are in danger, it resists any intervention to protect its borders. Wars have been accepted as a natural reality phenomenon by states in the historical process; However, both wars between states and civil wars adversely affect humanity, especially women and children, during and after the process. Wars make cities uninhabitable and people are forced to migrate in this process. During the migration, the lives of all segments of the society are completely changed. Historically, there have been many migrations from countries to countries and from cities to cities for centuries. During the migration process, changes have occurred in daily life, in the lives of women and children. Migration, on the one hand, changes the way people live, on the other hand, it causes cultural changes.

War and migrations are embodied by various arts. One of these arts is cinema. The power of cinema to influence the masses is greater than other branches of art. In this context, cinema makes social realistic films from the past to the present and reproduces and shows reality to the masses with the language of cinema. The themes of war and migration are also among the topics that the cinema deals with. With the art of cinema, which deals with the changes that occur in social life as a result of war and migration, other societies are aware of the tragedy and enable people to empathize. For this reason, this study aims to look at the impact of war on women and children and the phenomenon of migration from a sociological perspective through the movie The Swimmers, which deals with the civil war in Syria in 2011. In this study, the effects of war on society are emphasized by analyzing how war and therefore migration cause social changes and cultural conflicts in the movie The Swimmers. The study has shown that; Emphasizing that the migration process experienced after the destruction and danger caused by the war and the necessity of starting to live in a new country, the need of the two sisters to reshape their own identities and enter the process of adaptation, and that women and children can be strong and resilient despite these difficult conditions, it has been observed that women and children have the ability to cope with all kinds of difficulties they may encounter thanks to these characteristics. Although these two sisters have bleeding wounds somewhere, they have achieved success on the path they set out with determination and determination.
