Abstract

Since mathematics is a lesson that includes abstract concepts, it is a lesson that is thought to be difficult for students. On the other hand, one of the first concepts that comes to mind when talking about solution is the concept of "mathematics". Therefore, the lecture and teaching style of the mathematics lesson is of great importance for both the teacher and the student. It is up to teachers to teach students mathematics in the most understandable, easy and enjoyable way. In the changing and developing education system, the teaching of the mathematics lesson has also varied and gained innovations in terms of teaching methods over time. In this study, the achievement of rounding to tens in natural numbers, which affects the estimation skills of primary school fourth grade students in mathematics, was explained to the students with two different teaching techniques. Web-based games and education and direct instruction method were used as teaching styles and the effect of teaching techniques on learning was examined. The findings of the study, which was considered as an experimental study, were analyzed using the SPSS 25 program. According to the findings of the research, in the first test, a statistically significant difference was found between the teaching and education of the Web-based game, and the teaching with direct instruction. It was determined that the knowledge level of the training group was higher with the direct instruction technique. In the posttest, a significant difference was found between web-based game and education and direct instruction and education. It was determined that the knowledge level of the training group was higher with the web-based game.
