THE USAGE OF CERAMIC ART IN THE FIELD OF GERENTOLOGICAL OCCUPATION THERAPY WITH ELDERLY PEOPLE AND AN EXAMPLE OF ANTALYA HALIL AKYÜZ HUZUREVI

Abstract

Gerentology which is known as oldage science is applied to elderly people with a few discipline simultaneously. Geriatrics and occupational therapy are only two of them. “Occupational therapy’’ which is in the working area of  Ergotherapy is practised into the daily life of an elderly person  to be a healty individual in order to survive and it is an important part of the therapy. In the  content of  occupational therapy, there are a lot of art and hand –art practices which are applied to elderly  as a treatment and therapy. The ceramic art is one of the art domains which is used as therapy. To the extent the workings are made in the example of elderly peoples’ house, the ceramic has been seen as an important therapy method in speeding up the recovery of elderly people. In this article, a study result is going to be presented which is about a project we made with our students in Antalya Halil Akyüz Huzurevi. It deals with practising of the ceramic art on elderly people which has a remedial power and a therapy.
