AN ANALYSIS OF THE TRANSFORMATİVE EFFECTS OF TECHNOLOGY ON USER BEHAVIOUR AND THE COMMUNICATION ECOSYSTEM: THE EXAMPLE OF 5G, 6G, AND IOT TECHNOLOGIES

The concept of technology has become a significant dynamic that plays a transformative role in all areas of life. Therefore, in a rapidly changing and globalizing world, examining studies related to technological development is crucial for understanding the ongoing process. Although there are many studies in the literature on this subject, projections that analyze the accelerating pace of technology must be constantly updated. Among the major developments that demonstrate the speed of technological advancement are 5G, 6G, and Internet of Things (IoT) protocols, which encompass a wide range—from smart factory infrastructures and production systems to the integration of personal tools and objects with smart devices on a larger scale. These new technological initiatives, in which smart devices are introduced in new forms through high-speed protocols, may also bring changes in social and cultural structures. Therefore, in order to anticipate the potential positive and negative outcomes of these changes in line with legal and ethical principles, it is of great importance to understand how these technologies influence social and cultural life as well as communication. To achieve this, an analysis of the general characteristics and areas of influence of these technologies is required. This study aims to examine the fundamental features of 5G and 6G protocols within the context of the IoT ecosystem, as well as the potential social transformations that societies may encounter due to these new technological developments, and the effects of these technologies on user behaviors and the transformation process. This study is a qualitative, descriptive, and theoretical literature review that examines the transformative effects of 5G, 6G, and IoT technologies on user behaviors and the communication ecosystem within the framework of technological determinism. Within the framework of technological determinism theory, the results were analyzed through a literature review, and it was concluded that 5G, 6G, and IoT technologies could lead to significant social and cultural changes, particularly in the field of communication.
