Abstract

The aim of this study is to examine the views of school principals regarding internal elements that play a role in school management in distance education practice. The study group of the study, which is modeled according to the phenomenology pattern, one of the qualitative research methods, consists of 30 school principals working in the province of Malatya in the 2020-2021 academic year. The data collected through the semi-structured interview form developed by the researcher were deciphered using the content analysis technique. As a result of the research; It is observed that the relations of school principals with teachers, students, parents and senior management are negatively affected. Apart from this, it was determined that the workload of school principals increased and they had control and follow up problems. In this process, it was concluded that school principals 'cooperation with teachers decreased, they could not respond to the needs of students immediately, they were more exposed to parents' complaints, and their communication with the top management (provincial and district national education directorate) decreased. According to the opinions of the school principals, it was concluded that the teachers adapted to distance education technology, were able to create an efficient lesson environment and constantly improve themselves. The most common problems teachers experience in practice are not getting healthy feedback from students, student absenteeism, weakening of group communication and sharing, and not getting efficiency from applied lessons. According to the school principals, it is observed that students adapt to technology, their understanding of responsibility has developed and they have acquired the habit of individual learning. According to their managers, during the pandemic, the workload of non-educators has decreased and their job performance has decreased. The common recommendation of school principals to teachers, students and parents is to prepare the working environment.
